Fuel System & Battery Maintenance

Treating the Fuel System (Stop Carburetor Clogs Before They Start)

Gasoline can't last a lifetime! Fuel starts to degrade within 30 days and will develop a sticky varnish that will plug small fuel carburetor jets and destroy fuel lines.

Fuel Stabilizer: If oil is left in the gas moped or scooter tank (150cc or 50cc), the tank should be nearly full and a good quality Fuel Stabilizer added.
Run the Engine: The engine should be run for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the stabilized fuel to be circulated throughout the fuel system and carburetor.
Shut Fuel & Drain Gas: If it's not intended to be stored for more than 3 months, turn the fuel valve and empty the float bowl of the carburetor to remove any fuel remaining in the system.

How to Pull & Maintain the Battery

Cold weather really renders batteries useless. If you leave the battery in a chilly garage, it will kill it to the bone and make it good as new.

Unplug the Leads: Disconnect the battery of your quad, moped or electric-start bike (negative terminal first)!
Store Indoors: Store the battery in a dry, climate-controlled environment and away from the concrete floor.
Smart Tender: Utilize a Smart Tender (connect to a 12V float charger/trickle tender). This will make sure the battery is fully charged throughout winter, ensuring steady push-button electric start functionality in spring.

Engine Protection, Tires, & Suspension

Change Engine Oil & Fog the Cylinder

After its season of heavy riding, there accumulates acid and dirt in used engine oil that are not good for the engine. Dirty oil will cause corrosion and wear during the winter and will be more harmful than left-in oil.

Fresh Oil: When the engine is still warm, drain the oil and then add fresh oil.
Cylinder Protection Method: Remove the spark plug, fog a bit of the cylinder(s) directly, turn the engine over once or twice, then reinstall the spark plug. It forms a protective film that prevents the cylinder and piston from rusting.

Safeguard Your Tires & Suspension

Bikes left on the concrete, lying flat for months on end, will get flat spots in the tires and the rubber sidewall deteriorates.

Inflate to Max PSI: Pump tires up to their recommended pressure before storing.
Center Stand or Wooden Blocks: If possible, allow your 110cc youth ATV or 125cc dirt bike to sit on a center stand or wooden blocks to remove weight from the tires and suspension.
Cover Up: Keep machine covered with breathable fabric. Do not cover with a non-breathable plastic cover; it will collect condensation beneath and cause metal elements to rust.
